Exploring Careers in the Marine Sciences

Program Overview
Discover how Disney scientists maintain the environment and inhabitants of the 5.7 million gallon aquarium at the center of The Seas with Nemo & Friends. Students will learn all about the education and training required for professional careers in the marine sciences while getting an up-close look into the responsibilities of studying and caring for aquatic animals. Students will complete their experience by discovering the many unique opportunities available to them, such as the professional internship program at The Seas with Nemo & Friends.

Learning Outcomes

Marine Mammal Training
  • Learn about the animal training process.
  • Get an up-close look at the day-to-day responsibilities of marine mammal trainers, including food preparation, training, husbandry and marine mammal rehabilitation.
  • Discover what it takes to work with aquatic animals, including the best educational background and experience needed to stand out in this unique profession.
Marine Researcher
  • Learn how research helps manage and protect marine species
  • Students are introduced to some of the different research projects being managed by scientists and experts from The Seas with Nemo & Friends.
  • Experience a hands-on observational research activity to gain insight into the life of a researcher.
Water Scientist
  • Visit the Water Science facility that supports The Seas with Nemo &
    Friends and see first-hand the integral role that water quality plays in
    the health of marine animals
Aquarist
  • Gain insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of an aquarist,
    including feeding fish, observing fish behavior, monitoring the health
    of the fish, and rehabilitating endangered species.
  • Discover the level of education and experience needed to work
    successfully in an aquarium setting.
Veterinarian
  • Learn about the expanding field of marine veterinary science and the innovative methods being developed to care for marine life, including new types of surgery for fish.
  • Learn about the role they play in the care and health of our animals.
  • Participate in a hands-on activity that explores some of the unique
    skills of a veterinarian.
Marine Educator
  • Discover the role that marine educators play in conservation by
    inspiring guests to care about wildlife and wild places.
